  JW 'urban legends'

  i was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.

  most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.

  some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

  When I reflect on it now, the houses were on the same hill only feet apart. The old vagabond probably just went to the next house to scare that crap out of two teenagers. Funny thing is a version of this made our circus assembly a couple of years later. I remember one of our local brothers talking about it saying in the end how Satan uses apostates and how we must always be on guard.

  I have a story that happened to me and another youth when we were going door to door.

  We went up to this house on a hill and knocked at the door. An old lady answered and with a very deep and strange voice said, "Get out of here, they are mine!" So, we high tailed it out of there. I don't think our little feet even touched the steps as we ran! (We were both teenagers.) We reported what happened to the elder in our group what happened, and as a rabid service person, he ignored what we said and made us do the next house. as we went up the stairs he stood at the bottom of the steps (There must have been 40 of them.) When we knocked at the next door, the same woman answered and hissed at us and laughed. Now, you never saw two young kids run that fast in your life! Oh, and the elder....I think he shit his pants! Here is where it gets better, the next week when two elders went up to those houses to check on them, they were completely empty! Looked like they weren't lived in for years! Then elders had them as do not call for years until they both burned down. Oh....did I say that it was eventually found out that the one house was a former home of a "Russellite" who left the org back in 1920 and turned against them?

  Paint Nite - fun evening and a new hobby

  we (and by 'we', i mean my wife) decided that we should try something new and she, erm, i mean 'we', liked the idea of painting.

  so i enthusiastically (i.e.

  begrudgingly) went along for the night to the "pain nite" event she'd booked us for a couple of weeks ago.. the premise is pretty simple: it's held in a pub or restaurant, all the art supplies are provided, the instructor then walks you through how to reproduce a painting they have chosen for the night and you have a glass of wine or beer, do some painting, have something to eat, have some more wine, more painting, more wine, realize you are drinking the dirty paint water and so on.. here's the site: https://www.paintnite.com/.

  Wet on wet is where you paint the whole canvas in a white wash then paint over top it. You can actually create some interesting pictures that way. It also allows the use of painting knives. BTW....that is an excellent job!

  visit about 2 months ago.

  during our servant and elders meeting he was talking up the importance of meeting attendance and how we "gods spirit appointed men" must take the lead on making every meeting.

  I know for a fact the code is changed every month to keep people off the tie in. You have to ask the Elders for the code each month if you want to listen in. We had on brother who took a job in the evening so he could support his family. The Elders refused to give him the pin number. The reason was that he wasn't trusting in Jehovah.

  WOW...90% of my post got cut out!

  Anyways....long story short...I took my sister on a picnic this past Sunday and she wanted to hear the meeting. So she asked me for the pin # for the caller hookup. I told her I didn't know it even though I did. So she called her Service Overseer for the # but he wouldn't give it to her because she wasn't sick but and I quote "goofing off and not at Jehovah's table."

  My sister was furious and hung up immediately and said "What an ass!" Yep....I think I need to plan another brunch/picnic on a Sunday.

  Has anyone else heard of this 'new policy" to control who uses the telephone tie in?
